What does it mean to be mindful of others? Being aware is a choice. You can choose to be aware of others’ intentions, their words, their actions, their words or lack thereof, their emotions or your own. You can choose to be aware of yourself and your own behaviors and the way you respond to others. Or, you can choose not to be aware of anything at all.
- Awareness is a choice. Being aware means you are paying attention. You are observing what is going on around you in your life. So what does it mean to be mindful of others? Being aware of others allows you to set boundaries. You can decide what you will tolerate and what you will not tolerate. When there are problems, you will have a plan for how to deal with them and you will be actively searching for creative solutions for the needs of others.
- Being aware of others is about empathy. Awareness creates compassion and caring. You can decide what kind of person you want to be. Some people are born compassionate and loving and others aren’t. That’s okay. The important thing is you have a choice and if you choose to be oblivious to what does it mean to be aware of others then you are a victim.
Victims of neglect, anger, guilt, self-pity or other emotion based abuses are often unaware that they are in such a situation. They are very conscious of what others think of them but not aware that they may be feeling what they are feeling and the abuse is happening. As humans we tend to relate to others on the basis of similarities. We are attracted to like minded people and are drawn towards members of similar culture, religion, race etc. But, deep down we all want something more. We want to be understood, to be respected and to be appreciated for our good qualities. We want to know that we are loved for who we really are.
You might have noticed that you tend to have conversations with people who share the same culture, religion, race or background as you. This is because we are all attracted to each other on the basis of similarities. So, what does it mean to be aware of others and be aware of the differences in others?
- When you are aware of another it shows respect and empathy on their part. This shows that they can see and know what you are going through. It also shows that they are not alone and have colleagues who are going through what you are. What does it mean to be aware of others and being aware of the differences? Every individual on this planet has within them an inner light or energy that cannot be seen by others. If you try and see what you have inside yourself you will find that you are a beautiful being that radiates love and compassion.
